Libraries offer upcoming events and activities

STEUBENVILLE — The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced its upcoming events and activities. Classes are for tailored for all residents of any age, according to officials. There are classes for children, teens and adults.

This week’s courses include activities for babies ranging in age from birth to 2 years old.

The following is a list of libraries and its scheduled classes.

Main Library, (740) 282-9782

Adults: Join us for the continuation of our urban homesteading presentations at 11 a.m. Sept. 9. Local authors and owners Shawn and Beth Dougherty, of the Sow’s Ear Farm, will cover how to take care of your garden in this harvest session. Registration is required.

Children: Parents can bring their children between the ages of birth through 2 years old, to the library’s lap-sit program, entitled Babygarten. The program will take place at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8. Registration is required.

Tot Time will offer stories, songs and an art activity for kids 2 to 4 years of age. Tot Time is held at 4 p.m. Sept. 7. Registration is required.

Adena Branch, (740) 320-0009

Children: Paint a fall tree at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7. Registration is required to make the craft.

Dillonvale, Mount Pleasant Branch, (740) 314-4309

Children: Play with toys that promote letter knowledge during “Play and Learn the Alphabet” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. This program is for parents with children ages 2-6.

Schiappa Branch, (740) 264-6166

Adults: Signing for babies takes place at 6 p.m. Sept. 6. Learn some American Sign Language and ways to teach your baby to communicate. Lessons can be taught to those who are as young as 8 months old, officials stated. The program is instructed by Jessica Cheslar. Registration is required.

Play and Learn will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 and at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8. Toys which promote alphabet knowledge will be available for kids ages birth to 4.

Get the basics of podcasting, including a crash course on microphones, audio interfaces, production, interviewing, editing and distribution. Discussions on marketing episodes and branding podcasts will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 9. Jacob Baugher, co-creator and co-host of the Archetypist podcast which helps new writers, will serve as instructor. Registration is required.

Toronto Branch, (740) 537-1262

Children: Babies aged birth to 2 can visit the library with a parent for the library’s lap-sit program entitled, Babygarten. Lap-sit is held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 8 and registration is required.

Story Hour will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday for children 2 to 6 years of age. Registration is required. Tot Time takes place at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7. The event offers stories, songs and an activity for kids 2 to 4. Registration is required.
