Norman R. Hall, 88, of La Crosse, passed away on August 24, 2023.

Norman was born on December 10, 1934 to Josephine and Norman D. Hall in La Crosse. Norm graduated from Logan High School in 1952. He completed his bachelor’s in Elementary Education at the University Wisconsin La Crosse in 1957 and went on to complete his Master’s in Education Administration at the University Wisconsin Madison in 1963. Norman was in the Army National Guard during his time in college. After graduation, Norm taught at a number of schools in the area including the Viroqua School District, Washburn Elementary, Jefferson Elementary and Logan Middle.

Normwas married to Patricia (Ruud) Hall in 1967 and they lived in Viroqua and the Town of Medary and had four children. Norman married Sally (Kendhammer) Hall in 1981.Norman grew up on the northside of La Crosse where he lived most of his years, nearly his entire life in the same neighborhood. He was a true northsider. Norm spent his life in the classroom as either a student or a teacher and retired from teaching at the very building he graduated high school (now Logan Middle). As a teacher, he touched many students’ lives and also taught the children of many of his prior students. Norman retired in 1992 after teaching 33 years in the La Crosse School District.

Norman’s favorite hobby was woodworking. He enjoyed building gifts for family members including a wood rocking horse for his granddaughter. He enjoyed carpentry projects during summers off from teaching. In his retirement, he customized his home with many woodworking and remodeling projects.

Norm was known for his friendliness, open-mindedness, infinite patience, and easy-going and pleasant demeanor. Errands around town were often punctuated by spontaneous conversations with former students who were delighted to see him.

Norman lived many years with Parkinson’s and in 2018, he transitioned into assisted care at Hearten House and his final home at Bethany Riverside in La Crosse.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Norman, brother Richard “Pete” Hall, sister-in-law Kathleen “Kay” Hall, and wife Sally (Kendhammer) Hall. Norman is survived by his children; Janet (Robert) Roth of La Crosse, Lisa (Tim) Koerner of Highlands Ranch, CO; Tim Hall of La Crosse, Brian Hall of Portland, OR; and Kirstin (David) Hall of Huntington Beach, CA, granddaughter Madelina Ayala of Boseman, MT; nieces Tammy McCoy of La Crosse, Tara (Tim) Rieck of Holmen, and nephew Jason Hall of La Crosse.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse. Pastor Phillip Waselik will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
